10 more countries: AbacusMaster’s impressive franchise expansion during pandemic

New Delhi [India], May 13 (ANI/SRV): Wizycom AbacusMaster, with its unique activities and initiatives, is an exclusive abacus educational programme for aspiring young students. The programme aims to expand and enhance an individual’s cognitive functions such as memory, concentration and visualization.

AbacusMaster promotes a hybrid course of teaching with both offline and virtual abacus classes. Despite the pandemic, the company was able to expand into ten more countries. The teacher-led online abacus live training program became a massive global hit, with a quarter-million aspirants joining the extremely popular live training programme.

Around the world, the abacus has long been used in mathematics education. It teaches and aids the “right brain,” which is responsible for intuition, in performing rapid arithmetic calculations by training the eyes, head, and fingertips. The activity in the right-hand aids in the coordination of the activity in the left side of the brain, and vice versa. It has been shown to be one of the most effective methods of teaching young students mental math…Read More

Private school aspiration increasingly out of reach as inflation bites

Many private schools have raised fees and other charges by more than 15% this year, said Aparajita Gautam, president of the Delhi Parents Association

By Manoj KumarIndian financial consultant Waqar Khan has seen his income drop by about a fifth since the coronavirus pandemic began. When his younger son’s private school raised fees by 10% this year, he had no choice but to move him to the state system. With three children and living in a small house in the capital, New Delhi, the 45-year-old can no longer afford private school fees for his boy of 10. He moved his older boy into a state school in early in 2021.

“I had no option,” Khan told Reuters, adding that rising education costs had come on top of a nearly 25% increase in household expenses in the past two years. While inflation is putting the heaviest burden on the poorest, the relatively well-off are coming under the sort of pressure to make cuts in household budgets not seen in years. Khan is among millions of parents who have moved children from private to state education since 2020, or from elite schools to cheaper ones. In 2021, four million children switched from private to state, more than 4% of all children in school….

Is India running out of time to cash in on its booming young workforce?

India isn’t doing enough to revamp its education system to prepare the youth for better-paying, high-skilled jobs, going by a recent World Bank report

jobs

Economy News: India, which is home to more young people than any other country, is running out of time to harness the potential of its youth to drive economic growth. The nation’s population in the under-19 age group has already peaked, government data show. That means the labor force will grow more slowly from here on out. In just over 20 years, the South Asian nation will be an aging society, similar to where China is now, according to the Economic Survey published by the Finance Ministry earlier this month.

With those risks looming, India isn’t doing enough to revamp its education system to prepare the youth for better-paying, high-skilled jobs, going by a recent World Bank report. The world’s sixth-biggest economy, and until recently the fastest-growing major one, is ranked 115 out of 157 countries in the Human Capital Index, which measures the investment in education and health care for young people.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s budget this month allocated 3.4 per cent of total annual spending to the ministry in charge of education, little changed from the last few years and down from 3.8 per cent in 2015. The government’s own review of public schools says “it is common knowledge” that the country’s education system suffers from a shortage of teachers and staff, poor teacher training and delays in receiving funds.

Online NEET-UG unlikely in 2019; HRD Ministry to maintain status quo

The Health Ministry sent a letter to the MHRD within three days saying the announcement was made “without formal consultation” with them

Future imperfect? Indian B-schools face dearth of students, quality faculty

Education news : The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test or NEET-UG, a qualifying test for admission in medical institutions, may not be conducted twice in 2019 as announced by HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar in July, according to reports.

Days after the announcement of newly formed National Testing Agency (NTA) who would conduct the national- level examinations — NET, NEET, JEE (Mains) — that were organised by the CBSE, Health Ministry wrote a letter to HRD Ministry, asking them to continue with the offline examination or pen-paper mode in 2019 as well, a Times of India report said.

According to Javadekar in his July announcement, the tests would be computer-based. The exams would be held over a span of four-five days and students would have the option of choosing the dates, he said. The NEET-UG was scheduled for February 2019 with a repeat on May 2019.

The Health Ministry, according to Indian Express, sent a letter to the HRD Ministry within three days saying the announcement was made “without formal consultation” with them. The letter stated the computer-based test would put students from rural and economically poor families at a disadvantage.

Each JEE, NEET examinee may get a unique question paper from next year

Starting from 2019, the National Testing Agency mandates competitive exams to be computerised

Students

Soon after the human resource development ministry announced the handing over of competitive exams like JEE, NEET to the National Testing Agency (NTA), a new set of rules have been prepared and are ready to roll from next year. The NTA now mandates competitive exams to be all computerised, meaning which, the examinations will rely heavily on technological tools like Artificial Intelligence, Psychometric analysis and Computer-based adaptive testing.

With this, each candidate will now get a unique set of questions, with the software picking questions randomly for candidates.

In a statement, Vineet Joshi, director general of NTA, said: “The test will be 100 per cent safe… The highest level of encryption will be used so that no one can hack into the system,” the Times of India reported.

The changes to the examination pattern include distracting candidates with multiple choice questions to fox them. “And with millions of questions (items) to be prepared instead of a couple of question papers for a particular test, you will be at the mercy of the software’s algorithm, which will pick up items at random for your test at a particular date, based on the set of difficulty-level,” an official was quoted as saying by the Times of India.

This move will help the NTA do things faster — from setting the questions to preparing the correct answers.

NTA is also undertaking psychometric analysis of previous years’ test. This is done to:

1) Test how well each question has fared so as to determine its level of difficulty.

2) To check if the distraction system (multiple choice for a question) applied to the candidates functioned well. This is primarily done so that the ones who know the subject are able to answer correctly.

3)To check how well the question paper has functioned and to see if these tests were reliable.(ARTICLE SOURCE : BS)

Delhi University admission day 1: Here’s what students said

Though the university has overhauled the admission process this year by making the system digitalized, long queues were seen in front of cyber cafes near Patel Chest institute

Students filling the application forms at North Campus

Students hoping for admission in Delhi University say they faced hassles due to slow connectivity while accessing the institute’s website (www.du.ac.in) on Monday, a day after 2018’s first cut-off list for undergraduate courses was announced.

“The admission portal crashed several times and the website also took ages to get loaded. I was finally able to download the application form and got a printout ten minutes before the deadline,” said Aashi, a student who has applied for History honors at Indraprastha College for Women.

“If there are problems with internet connectivity, they should at least increase the timings for admission. Instead of 9:30am-1: 30 pm, it (the closing time) should be increased to 5:30 pm,” said Aashi.

Though the university has overhauled the admission process this year by making the system digitalized, long queues were seen in front of cyber cafes near Patel Chest institute.

Telangana State Board students were confused over the calculation of their marks. “The colleges are not accepting our 12th class mark sheet and are denying to take our aggregate marks of class 11 and 12. It is an appeal to resolve our problem soon,” said one of them who wants to pursue Physics honors from Ramjas College.

Want admission in DU? Here’s a subject-wise cut-off of top colleges

Another point of confusion was the “provisional certificate” in cases where students from Gujarat, Bihar, Haryana, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh did not have CBSE’s original marksheet.

“My sister has not received the original marksheet of her class 12th board results from her school and this year the university is not accepting the provisional marksheet, and because of this she did not get admission in Hansraj (College).”

By the end of the day, the university issued a circular for all colleges, asking them to accept the provisional marksheets of CBSE students, said Dr. Dhani Ram, admission convener at Ramjas College.

On the first day of the admission, the colleges did not see many enrollments. At Ramjas, out of the total 1334 seats, just 112 seats were filled and the highest enrollment was in the BCom department.

DU admission: St Stephen’s 1st cut off – 98.75% for Eco, 98.5% for English

Courses such as Sanskrit, Urdu and Hindi honors saw a poor response. Several colleges did not begin the admission process for quite a few humanities courses.

“It’s the first day, students are confused and are looking for their desired colleges, some are waiting for the second, third cutoffs, and that’s why the campus is not very crowded. But we are expecting a pace in the admission in the coming two days,” said a faculty member from Daulat Ram college.
